This weird piece of headgear that makes me look boss eyed is a brand-new way for me to see into client’s ears when I am doing the micro suction wax removal procedure. It is called an Oscope. I have always used loupes before which are magnifying glasses with a light. They worked well but were very heavy. Because of the strong magnification I had to be positioned a long way back from the ear which meant small amounts of deep wax in tiny ear canals were hard to see. Also, you end up using one primary eye which eventually causes eye strain.
The Oscope is head mounted and very light. The eyes are drawn together and use mirrors which means I use both eyes and can get closer to the ear. I can now see in the teeniest, tiniest ears close up and remove more deep wax safely.
Don’t worry, I won’t be staring at you like this. The gasses flip up, I only use them when looking close into the ears !
